Not Funny, Not Good
I wasn't sure what to expect from this show so I went into and through the first week of shows with an open mind and a clean slate. I think I've seen James Corden in another show or doing stand-up on TV previously but I can't quite place him, which means he must have been neither great nor awful.
The problem with this show is, it is awful. Consistently and unfailingly awful.
Corden himself seems likable enough and is decent in his interactions with the guests (although he's a little stiff, which should clear up as time passes and he gets more comfortable). But he's just not very funny.
Most of all, the writing is not funny at all. I'm not sure how much of it is his own stuff and how much of it is written by other people, but it's really terrible. The stuff that is even somewhat passable is obviously borrowed from other, more successful late night and sketch shows. The stuff that isn't derivative is just plain atrocious, and there's a lot of this material every single episode. I'm not sure why when they have such top notch guests. These sketches are painful to watch.
Give it a rest or this show is going to end up canceled, I don't know anyone who is enjoying this stuff so far. We will give it one more week and then I'm not watching it again. Here's hoping you find your way, Mr. Corden!
I went to film school and I am still so sick and tired of every pretentious student who fancies him or herself an "artiste" with something "important to say to the world" shooting a bunch of awful, grainy, gritty, black and white footage that's disjointed and poorly spliced together, apparently on a super-8mm camera, and pretentiously declaring it to be an experimental masterpiece. This movie is boring, unimportant, and stupid. The acting (what little of it can be made out) is terrible. Some of the imagery is OK but that's the only good thing I can say about this.
The director clearly has some problems and I hope in the future he borrows money to get himself a psychiatrist, not more film stock. This film is one of the most boring and infuriatingly self-important pieces of crap I have ever seen -- and again I went to film school!
Maybe this could have been a decent 4 or 5 minute Nine Inch Nails Video, but for what seems like two hours it's just awful. Not scary or entertaining in the least.
Also it "borrows" its grainy look from a lot of other films and really wants to be Eraserhead. The great thing about Eraserhead's sound was the constant machine droning. This movie takes that idea and replaces it with a loop of crickets (or sometimes birds). Just a dumb movie pretentious hipsters need to get over.
Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001)
I Loved This Movie!
I loved this movie! I am and have always been a very big fan of Disney (at least of their animated movies, I'm not such a big fan of a lot of their TV shows both animated or especially live action, or of their live action movies, or straight to DVD stuff). Of all the Disney movies that were animated and which were actually in theaters though Atlantis: The Lost Empire is probably my favorite of all time. I give it 10 out of 10.
I know it is not the most popular choice, Beauty and the Beast and Lion King and older ones like Cinderella and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs are, but of my personal picks it is number one even though it's not as popular.
It's a great story, a great adventure with a lot of good humor and interest for adults as well, and the voices are all top notch. I love Jim Varney!
Boston Legal (2004)
This show was just OK at best, it is weird because I love all of the talent in the show (Murphy Brown, William Shatner, and most of all James Spader who is awesome in everything I have ever seen him in) but I just didn't like the show that much. They weren't afraid of much and would try all kinds of crazy story lines but it just didn't deliver for me on a comedy or drama level, the jokes were always pretty predictable and didn't pay off with a whole lot of laughs on that front, at least they did not for me, people all have different tastes and obviously some people loved this show a lot and good for them, I'm glad they liked it and that the show lasted for a while with such great actors, I'm just not one of the people who liked this show, for whatever reason.
