The Secret Life of Pets 2 (2019)
This is one of those movies that is entertaining to children and adults. The animation and beautiful colors are wonderful. We laughed throughout the movie. The dialogue was very witty. Our dog watched the entire movie, jumping around and shaking his ball. He wore himself out. This is a kid pleasing movie for sure.
We watched this movie for 35 minutes. We were so bored and shocked since we liked the first one so much. Dark, drab animation, no fun, no wit - just terrible. I can't see this holding the attention of any child or adult. We had also received The Secret Life of Dogs and switched to it. That was a delightful movie.
The first half hour had potential. Then it became a bunch of boring nonsense with a nasty little girl. My husband will watch any sci-fi movie. I'm more discriminating about them. I prefer action or thriller movies. I do like an occasional well done sci-fi, but this surely wasn't it. Convoluted junk. I keep hoping it will end, as I'm sitting here trying to read.
On Dangerous Ground (1951)
Started out like gangbusters.
I loved the theme and plot of the first half in NY. The last half was strange and draggy. The romance seemed so contrived. They said that IDA wanted the very ending to be what it is. I'm actually shocked because she had directed some good films. I really disliked it and started to fast forward through parts toward the end. It seemed amateurish.
Pet Sematary (2019)
Again we have lazy Hollywood choosing to remake a movie that was so good and creepy and shouldn't have been remade. The first movie was filled with emotion. This was flat. I hated the ending. It's a typical ending that Hollywood uses endlessly for horror. I wish I could erase it from my mind. I can't believe that people actually gave this 9s and 10s. I loved the characters in the original and I loved the book.
Captain Marvel (2019)
The actress has no appeal. Samuel L Jackson is the only bright light in the movie. We never finished it. Poor dialogue, no excitement, no humor. Just bad. There were many Captain Marvels and if you do your research he started as a boy.
Beautiful scenery and story. My Belgian Malinois never stopped moving and watching it. He loved it too. The action scenes are thrilling. Even though the scores between this and Captain Marvel are 2 points different, I read the rave reviews of this and the terrible reviews of the other. ( We had both DVDs). We watched this and may just send the other back. This wolf looks a lot like my Mal. Watch the extra segment at the end about Chuck, the wolf dog who plays Alpha. This is a heartwarming story.
Really dislike this movie
I am not a fan of Spaghetti Westerns. There may be one or two in that genre that I like - not sure if they are true Spaghetti Westerns. The trilogy by this director really annoys me - don't know if I ever watched this entire movie. From the constant chords of that awful music to the stylized filming, it has no appeal to me. I prefer westerns like High Noon, Shane, True Grit (2010 version), The Magnificent Seven, 3:10 to Yuma (both versions), Open Range and The Cowboys. I guess there is a huge audience for these but I could never understand why.
I'm so upset. It's been canceled.
It seems if you need to have some gray cells to watch a program, it won't make it. Bring on the comic book stuff and gore for the masses. This series was so well done and judging by the reviews on here, I thought there were no worries. The Director is moving on to two other projects and let the actors go from their contracts. They're trying to act like it might be back, but really???? Every actor will be involved in something else. Too bad. We were hooked on it.
At Close Range (1986)
Dull and tedious - you know those boring small town movies about hoods. The dialogue made my eyes glaze over. Only watched because Christopher Walken is in it. Even he couldn't save it. Why do reviews have to be long again? I was happy when you changed the rigid length rule. I don't believe in writing forever just because someone wants you to write forever. After 30 minutes we quit watching or I would have gone mad. If you want to watch a real downer, this is the movie for you.
A Christmas Carol (2019)
Dark, dreary, disgusting, crass, vulgar, not enjoyable at all. Theatrical voices that get on my nerves. Marley in the casket begging for loss of consciousness freaked me outI don't need this as part of my Christmas viewing. There are many versions of this story I love - Mr Magoo, the Muppets, George C Scott. I'm not a big fan of the Hallmark Christmas movies ( although there are a few I love) but I'll take those any day. The first ghost is just a man who uses profanity constantly. I'm finished. I'm not watching anymore but my husband finishes any movie he starts.
Convoluted. Too much fighting. Confusion about characters and their ranking in the organization. I only watched because of the dogs. I have a Belgian Malinois who looks just like them. Needs more explanation of the characters. The first two were better but I'm not a huge fan of this series.
I deducted stars because....
I thought the movie was very interesting. I'm so tired of reviewers saying everything is a cliche. There are cliches in just about every movie. I was going to give it a 7 but deducted two stars because of the one sided anti Trump ending. There are far more Antifa violent " protestors" than white supremacists currently causing problems in the U.S. To blame Trump for these demonstrations is disgusting. So my new rating is a 5. Keep your Hollywood views out of the movies. This is a based on a true story according to reviewers who were disgruntled that it wasn't totally true in every aspect. The director may have added some fiction to the story but sometimes in order to make a movie that will be entertaining or will flow well that can be a necessity. Could have been better without the scenes at the end.
Hold the Dark (2018)
Director did a bad job on explaining
This movie was riveting until the last fourth. It was chilling, exciting and frightening. The main wolf tracker was a very appealing actor. We just finished it and we're totally confused. If you didn't read the book, there is no way you would figure it out. I went to reviewers who read the book after watching. The director read the book. Why didn't he share the important revelations with the viewers? I'm so tired of directors who think it's a great idea to have people say "huh" at the end. If he had revealed some important facts, I would have given this an 8. It wasn't slow at all, I'm fact there is one heck of an action scene in it. Too bad the director ruined a story with great potential.
When a Stranger Calls (2006)

A reviewer called this PG 13 horror. I think it's more frightening than disgusting movies like Saw, Hostel, Texas Chain Saw Massacre, etc. I like suspense more than gore and torture. I'm so sick of horror movies with bad endings too. This ending was fine. I like Camille Belle. As beautiful as this house is, it's darn creepy at the same time. I'd never live there. I think this is better than the original. It scares me every time I watch it. I'm shocked at the low rating. I guess today's horror fans like things to be so far over the top that suspense doesn't do a thing for them. I'm not adverse to some blood, etc. but I really can't stand the unsatisfying endings on most movies in this genre. Directors must still think they are shocking us with their bad endings.
Rust Creek (2018)
Great thriller, drama
I wouldn't label this horror. It's a thriller. I loved the actors. Some say it's been done before. I think the relationship between the young woman and the meth cook was an added bonus to making this a good film and prevented it from being a typical plot that hasn't been done before. Some say it's slow. Not at all - there's a certain crowd that wants constant explosions and gunfights. I myself love suspense in between action scenes. That's what makes a good thriller. I also didn't think the girl was stupid. I thought she was pretty smart and a good heroine.
It frightens me that people are giving this 9s and 10s and saying it's brilliant and complex. It's convoluted not complex. The same scenes are played out over and over. I had to stop watching although I'm still sitting here while my husband finishes it. He hates it too but he finishes movies regardless. This has to be one of the worst movies I've seen in years. This is not a thriller. I thought we'd be watching a good thriller but I guess my definition differs from what streaming services are calling thrillers. There is nothing complex about this movie. It stinks. It's a bunch of mish mash. No real thought had to be given to this story and it makes no sense. I guess I'm going to quit going by the average scores on here. I crave intelligent thrillers.
The Flintstones (1960)
I think it holds up well. They have way better plots than other cartoons ( except Sponge-bob). These are warm and relatable. They are so colorful and the voices are great. When I'm down in the dumps I put one on and it carries me away. I watched these in my childhood and had the entire Flintstone Village on a mat - it had nice size houses, cars and figures. I wish I had it! I agree with the reviewer that the Jetsons can't compare. They are bland and boring and I don't love the characters. I think most present day children would like this. The cute appliances and dinosaurs are really entertaining.
In the Shadow of the Moon (2019)
Why are the bad guys always on the right in Hollywood?
I see plenty of bad guys on the left. The first third of it was terrific. Very scary. Then it deteriorated. This seems to be the opposite message of Minority Report, where it was shown that killing people on the premise that they will commit a crime in the future is not a good thing. Guess it's justified now. The ending was convoluted and stunk. Innocent people were collateral damage. I ended up despising this movie. No wonder TCM is becoming more popular. People don't like the current messages being pushed on us. They should have stuck with the title information and just made her a non political serial killer.
I don't understand the bad reviews
From the time this movie was released, it got terrible reviews. I think something weird was happening review wise and the system got stacked with negative reviews for a reason well never know. My entire extended family loves it. It's one of the best creature movies to be released. This movie has it all - characters you get to know, a great cast, wonderful special effects and lots of excitement. It's something I can watch repeatedly. Decide for yourself before believing the ridiculously low scores.
Every Secret Thing (2014)
It's like watching a train wreck......
There is nothing thrilling about this movie. It's very depressing, jumps around too much and has bad editing. There are scenes that offer no explanation to how the detectives got to that point. Some scenes are very dark and you're left wondering what is actually happening. I really don't understand any rating 7 or above. Even if you like this sort of thing, there is no way it ranks with movies that truly are 7 and above. There is no delving into the character of Diane Lane other than she's crazy. There is nothing satisfying in the ending. Just another weird ending that directors seem to think is so wonderful.
The Conners (2018)
I actually thought the new reboot was a little awkward even with Roseanne. Too much political correctness interjected. I love Roseanne and her relationships with Dan and Jackie and it wasn't bad. I would have kept watching it and it may have evolved into another special show. Now that she's gone, it's so awful. Sara Gilbert cannot carry a show. She's an abrasive character. As she grew into a teen in the original series, she quickly became my least favorite character. Maybe in real life she should be greatful for the wonderful career she had due to Roseanne. This is a dark show now. The characters had many problems (mostly economic) in the first series, but they had a wonderful love for each other. I'm buying the entire series, I never tire of it. Roseanne is a very talented woman and made that show special. I'm reading comments that the negative reviews are made by people upset at her being fired. Well, you could say just the opposite about the 9s and 10s on here. Really? Even if you like the show ( go figure) is is not worthy of the highest score possible. I predict that the network will never cancel this show ever, just to make a liberal point. They will continue to prop it up no matter how much money it loses.
For some reason there was no suspenseful build up in this movie. Lorie is so over the top crazy that it interfered with the suspense. The doctor part annoyed me. I fell asleep 3/4 through it and never finished it. Disappointed after all the great reviews.
I Am the Night (2019)
I can barely keep watching this. The first episodes are mainly the young woman walking around looking at things with wide eyes. I like dramas that are well written. I'm not one of those people that require constant action. This is not one of those good dramas. I feel it is poorly done and over hyped. I'd rather watch an older Black Dahlia movie or documentary. My husband agrees it's slow but wants to see it through, so I guess I shall keep watching. My 5 stars may decrease.
The Snowman (2017)
Very good thriller
There is a group of people who insist a movie must be exactly the same as a book and bring down the review scores ridiculously. A movie must condense the story in two hours or less. For those of you who love the European style thrillers as opposed to the ones out of Hollywood, this is for you. It frightened me - very creepy. It is a good story. There is beautiful cinematography. What more could I ask for? I would probably have given it an 8 but because so many have given it undeserving super low scores, I'll go up to a 10. The first 20 minutes are a little confusing and choppy, but after that it comes together seamlessly.
