This was not what I was expecting.
I first heard about this movie when I was looking at the films I hadn't seen from the top 250 list and I read about this. I thought that it would be a very simple and boring movie. But when I saw it I was pleasantly surprised. Although the storyline is pretty simple, the way it is done is not as simple as it sounds. Most of the characters become involved with the diamond whether they like it or not.
But what makes this film so interesting. Well for starters the script is full of many funny comments. The acting is also absolutely wonderful. Especially Brad Pitt. Also the editing in some scenes like the milk drink scene keeps you guessing about how the scene will end. Then there is also the boxing scenes, especially the final one that is done by using a mixture of slow motions and still shots. And finally, there is the fun and exciting soundtrack that goes with it.
If you liked lock stock and two smoking barrels, then you'll love snatch.
The Prestige (2006)
This film is something magical.
When I first saw the prestige I was sick and I thought that it was a great movie, but would be better if I had the energy to think. So I watched it again a few days later and I was shocked to think that I thought this is what great. It is outstanding.
The prestige is one of those movies were you find something new every time. I think I have watched this movie seven or eight times and I still find things that I missed in the other viewings.
The story also proves what can happen when obsession takes over a person. This is done well between the two lead actors Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman, who try to work out the method behind each others magic tricks.
But what actually makes this film as good as it is. Well there are to many things to talk about. First there is the terrific music by David Julyan. Then there is the marvellous acting from all the actors. Then add to that a twist that is so strange but yet so affective.
A must see film for everyone. 10/10
The Dark Knight (2008)
The best movie I have seen so far.
I really wanted to watch this movie when it first came out, but I didn't get a chance. I was so desperate to see why everyone was raving about it. When I saw it I automatically knew why. I instantly loved it.
Everything about this film is brilliant. The superbly written, smart and witty script has been suitably chosen for each character. The suspense that is built up in some scenes is done extremely well with the choppy editing by Lee Smith. Wally Pfister's camera work is outstanding.
But what is probably the best thing about the film is the acting. Each actor does the role of their character magnificently well. None more so then Heath Ledger. His portrayal of the evil joker is so amazingly good that I still feel chills down the back of my spine every time he appears on screen.
A film that can be loved by people who aren't really batman fans. 10/10
