'Lights Out With David Spade' Starts Softly on Comedy Central

Comedy Central viewers appear to be taking the title of the cabler's new late-night show, Lights Out With David Spade, a bit too literally.

The show has gotten off to a somewhat sluggish start in linear ratings, averaging just 270,000 same-day viewers (along with a 0.1 rating among adults 18-49) in its first week. That's off a good amount from the two previous two occupants of the 11:30 p.m. slot, The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore in 2015 and The Opposition With Jordan Klepper in 2017.

Amy Schumer, Dana Carvey Among First-Week Guests for David Spade’s ‘Lights Out’ on Comedy Central
Ahead of David Spade’s debut Monday on Comedy Central as its newest late-night host, the network announced the first group of guest panelists for “Lights Out.”

Spade will be joined by Neal Brennan, Whitney Cummings and Erik Griffin on Monday night’s premiere episode. Additional guests for his first week include Jen Kirkman, Theo Von, Amy Schumer, Nick Swardson, Steve Byrne, Kaley Cuoco, Jim Jefferies, Al Madrigal, Sarah Tiana and his former “SNL” cast mate Dana Carvey.

According to the network, “Lights Out” will feature Spade’s “signature take” on the pop culture news of the day and include a rotating group of Spade’s comedian and celebrity friends, while also incorporating sketches and field segments.

Comedy Central has promoted Sarah Babineau and Jonas Larsen to co-heads of original content for the cable network.

In their new roles, they will have oversight for all comedy content developed across multiple platforms including linear, theatrical, live, audio and the newly-formed Comedy Central Productions. They will both report to Kent Alterman, president of Comedy Central, Paramount Network, and TV Land

“Through their incredible eye for talent and innate ability to develop the right project for the right platform, Sarah and Jonas have helped build the Comedy Central brand into the strongest position it has ever been,” said Alterman. “Working closely with them often makes me feel a little less sharp, but in a good way. We are so lucky to have them.”
