Alexander De Jordy,
There are plenty - one could even say a bit too many - of the fast and furious spy thrillers, exploring the undoing of global geopolitics and internice fights but this one is neither.
Spider in the Web is a melancholic - literally dark - reflection on spycraft, a self analysis in light of years passing. It is meant to put things in perspective, to educate rather than inform: in retrospect, would you still have done it, knowing the cost? Was it worth? What is a worthy cause? What is the moral guide you hang on to when everything around you is not what it seems?
These more philosphycal questions are rarely explored and for this SitW is great.
