Throughout the game, there are various easter eggs and nods toward the Syphon Filter game series (also developed by Bend Studio). In the latter half of the game, Deacon can find a collectible which contains a memo and classified information about the Syphon Filter virus and its various strains. The location of each strain is also listed and are actually locations which the player visits in the original Syphon Filter games. The memo mentions a researcher trying to contact Gabe Logan, Lian Xing, Teresa Lepan and Lawrence Mujari in order to find out more about the virus, albeit with no success. It can be concluded that Days Gone is a sequel to the Syphon Filter series.
