Just might be the best kart racer ever to date
7 May 2018 | by OlicosmicSee all my reviews

Where do I even begin? Everything about this game is amazing. The visuals, the music, the track design, the gameplay, the online servers, and the roster are all fantastic. The visuals are colorful, vivid, and crisp with all the details and bright color palette. The music is well composed and fits everything really well, if not perfectly. Each track is gorgeous and unique for the most part, which adds a ton of variety to the game as a whole, and the fact that this game has updated versions of classic tracks from previous Mario kart games is an amazing touch, especially for someone like me who's still somewhat new to the whole Nintendo library (due to the Nintendo Switch being my first Nintendo console), and with these classic tracks, I can get a deeper understanding of the history of the great series that is Mario Kart. The gameplay in this game is fantastic, and since I grew up with other kart racers like Crash Team Racing and Crash Nitro Kart, I felt mostly right at home with this games controls. Except in this game, the racing is smoother and better than any other kart racer I've ever played beforehand. The objects you can use to beat your opponent's is very fun and satisfying to use, albeit very frustrating when it happens to you. This frustration never hindered my experience with this game, as it always felt fair, as everything in this game is well designed. The racing itself is an absolute joy as it's very smooth and exhilarating not only from the speed, but from the competition that's with it as well. Overall, the racing is very addictive, and if you mix that with the fantastic tracks, it can make for a fantastic experience. The battle modes in this game are extremely fun and each of them is almost, if not just as fun as the racing, as they are not only imaginative, but sometimes addicting as well. One thing I am thrilled that got fixed are the online servers. I remember hearing how the Wii U versions servers were always meh, but with this version, I had no issues whatsoever and I'm glad they got the polish that they needed in this version. The roster in this game is jam packed with the classic Nintendo characters, as well as the new ones. Also, the DLC that was in the Wii U version of this game all make it in the roster, which is awesome. Overall, this game is just fantastic and I can't recommend this game enough to anyone that has a Switch, as this just might be the best kart racer ever to date. Even if anyone already has the Wii U version with the DLC installed already, the extra battle modes and better online servers makes this game a must-have, regardless, as this is, without a doubt, the definitive version of Mario Kart 8.
