Trivia

When Rick and Negan enters the basement, there is a graffiti "Abandon all hope, ye who enters here". This is a citation of Dante Alighieri's 14th century epic poem "Divine comedy", in particular its first part called "Hell" (the other two are in order "Purgatory" and "Heaven"). Dante, accompanied by Latin poet Virgil, sees an inscription right after passing the gate of hell. Its last phrase is the same as the graffiti seen in the basement. See more »

Have a Future From Our Past
19 March 2018 | by ThomasDrufkeSee all my reviews

Having everyone in one place is making this back half of the season work a lot smoother. Of course, there are still times when you wonder why certain characters don't make appearances, but I think we're done with the whole 3 episode arc without a big character appearing. Or at least that's the way it seems.

Tonight's episode dealt with Rick's growing unstableness and him being set on killing Negan. It's not unexpected considering where his mind has been the last few weeks, but doesn't it feel like this is yet another rehash of the growing list of people wanting to take on Negan on their own? Didn't Sasha, Rosita, Carl, and even Michonne all do the same thing? It played out in a fiery and Fast and Furious like fashion, but it's ultimately not all that different from those previous arcs.

On a different but somewhat similar note, Simon and Dwight sure seem like they are planning on taking on the new Negan role for The Sanctuary. It's an interesting dynamic to see play out, with both characters having different reasons to see the big guy go down, but yet not fully willing to admit their disapproval of his lead. If not both of them, it sure seems like one of them will bite the dust within the next few episodes.

It was a fascinating juxtaposition watching Rick try to tear Negan to pieces, along with Simon and Dwight plotting, while the Hilltop crew was busy building for the future with the new help from Georgie and two twins. Whether or not the introduction of Georgie is an indication of a bigger arc in years to come, or it's a one-off that is meant more to show our protagonists how they should live from now on, I certainly enjoyed that change of pace.

7.9/10
