There is only one Yul Brynner. No other actor had his looks, his range of talents, his energy, and his capacity to draw others into the spell of his charm. A true sophisticate of deliberately mysterious origins, Yul Brynner was at home in a wide variety of languages and social environments.
Fascinating is the manner to feel this large puzzle of discover and definition of a life and career like a sort of exploration of a far land. The film is about his unique force of seduction and about roles, about impressions and about gestures defining him and that is its basic virtue - the documentary gives more than the map of a biography but a sort of man defining part of an exotic, sofisticated, maybe eccentric character. Sure, for many, Yul Brynner is not exactly the great actor , many roles are perceived as superficials and results of compromises but the main thing, real significant about him remains the authentic charisma. And the documentary knows working with that.
