He also demands that Fabien's spy Sophie de Clermont marry the much older Cassel in order to report back to him. Gaston de Foix is arrested as the poisoner and tortured and his mother banished from court. Meanwhile Philippe must be seen to bed Liselotte but his love for the scheming Chevalier and disregard for his brother's power politics turn the event into a disaster. Written by don @ minifie-1

Who Will Watch the Watchmen?
8 September 2019 | by Prismark10See all my reviews

Louis is worried that no one is safe in his grand palace. In fact he has plans to have someone keep an eye on Cassel who seems to be back in favour. To tame a wild stallion, you do not always need to resort to the whip.

Fabien has banned the drug traders from the palace but social powders still get into the palace. Chevalier is seen using them. A late night visit to Claudine gives Fabien a clue regarding a murder and he rushes off to the palace. It could be a big mistake by him.

The King's mistress Madame de Montespan has given birth. Yet her place at court might still not be secure. The Queen points out to her that Louis is checking out a younger model.

As for poor Philippe, starting off again with the untrustworthy Chevalier who is jealous of his new wife Palatine who has arrived from a small German principality. Louis wants a bedding ceremony, Philippe arrives wearing a dress and is not in the mood.

The episode opens with a dream sequence that Louis experiences. It might indicate that he is a puppet whose strings are being pulled or that his authority has weakened. In some ways this was a slower episode, more intrigue regarding wives and girlfriends or boyfriends.
