Trivia

Halfdan the Black (Old Norse: Halfdanr Svarti) was a ninth-century king of Vestfold, which now comprises current capital Oslo and surrounding areas. He was the father of Harald Fairhair, the first king of a unified Norway. In this show the two are brothers. His name was given to him because of his black hair, which was (and is) very uncommon for Norwegians. See more »

Goofs

In the first battle scene, the bowman are shown pulling the bowstring back to the nose, as is done today. However, a Viking bow takes 100-130 pounds of force to draw back the string. Documents show Viking bowman depicted drawing the string back only to their chests, not the chin or nose. Vikings could fire their arrows more than 200 meters. See more »

Poetical Beauty
30 January 2018 | by tuna-tezgelSee all my reviews

It is as if some Tarkovsky slipped into this episode and people are complaining about it. From the first poetic scene on until its final darkness the episode delivered an aesthetic feast with its flash backs, metaphors and construct. It is different compared to other episodes of this series, but i dare to say that this series would have had a higher general score here if it started with this style. People can't stand novelty even when it is something more beautiful.

Futility of ambition, tragedy of war and people who love and lose someone in the middle of this chaos... And yet again we see, some people who have complexes are the source of evil in this world.
