Storyline

Ivan Brackenbury is the cheery if inept radio DJ at Bramlington Hospital where porter Ian D. Montfort fancies himself as a psychic healer and chaplain and Liverpool fan Kenny Mercer has aspirations of being a comedian. Long-term patient Terry however loves being in hospital, likening it to a cruise that doesn't go anywhere. New manager germ-phobic Susan Mitchell seeks to make sweeping changes at Bramlington, all cash-motivated, and Ivan in particular faces an uncertain future as a result, though he is blissfully unaware of the fact. Be patient

The first in the new series of Comedy Playhouse is a mockumentary called Hospital People.

It is set in Bridlington Hospital. We start off with wacky hospital radio DJ Ivan Brackenberry, he is using this as a stepping stone for bigger things. He has been there for over 20 years and his patter is stuck in the 1980s. These days he is not allowed to visit the children's ward.

Susan Mitchell is the go getting manager of Bridlington Hospital. She likes cost cutting and has a phobia of germs which has its bright side. She has managed to almost eliminate super-bug infections.

Kenny Mercer is the hospital Chaplin. An enthusiastic Liverpool supporter who likes to look on the cheery side of life and wind up the hospital DJ.

Ian Montfort is a Porter who dabbles in alternative medicine. Mainly because he failed his nursing exams and alternative therapy needs no qualifications.

Terry Boyle is a permanent patient, he treats the hospital as a holiday camp as there is nothing wrong with him.

We follow these characters in a mirthless 30 minutes as we are introduced to the set up in this potential pilot to a comedy series. Well Mockumentaries are a bit hit and miss and they are rarely any laugh out loud moments. Here I did not laugh once.
