Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw passes $700 million worldwide

Despite suffering a heavy slump in its third weekend in China, Universal Pictures’ over-the-top action blockbuster Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw has raced past the $700 million mark at the global box office this past weekend.

China is Hobbs & Shaw’s biggest market, the David Leitch-directed spinoff having banked $186 million in the Middle Kingdom, where both Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham enjoy healthy fanbases. It has earned a further $164 million domestically (making it the first F&f movie since 2009’s Fast & Furious not to crack $200 million), while its worldwide haul currently stands on $721 million.

At this point, it seems unlikely that Hobbs & Shaw will have enough gas in the tank to catch Fast & Furious 6, which earned $788.7 million back in 2013, and will presumably have to settle for fourth place in terms of the franchise’s biggest earners.

Hobbs & Shaw 2 Possible as Fast & Furious Spin-Off Zooms Past $700M
It's looking like Hobbs and Shaw 2 is practically guaranteed at this point. Hobbs & Shaw is a certifiable, massive hit as the Fast & Furious spin-off has officially crossed $700 million at the global box office. And, while it's become increasingly important for studios to have major blockbusters earn a lot of money internationally, there is a strong emphasis on global with this one. Whether or not that ultimately matters is up for debate and remains an interesting topic of discussion. Either way, this all but ensures a sequel will get made.

According to a new report, Universal Pictures has declared Hobbs & Shaw has made it over the $700 million mark. Interestingly, this includes just $160.2 million in North America. For contrast, the spin-off, which stars Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, has grossed $175 million in China, and counting. This is particularly noteworthy because, for the moment, Hobbs & Shaw has the lowest domestic gross of

Fast & Furious 9 Photo Gives Charlize Theron's Cipher a New Look

  • MovieWeb
Cipher is making her return to the Fast and Furious universe. Actress Charlize Theron has confirmed her return in Fast & Furious 9, and she'll be rocking a new look this time around. It has been reported several times that Theron would be making her second trip to the franchise in this entry but this is the first time that the Oscar-winner has confirmed the news personally, which just firms things up a bit. The real question is, what does this mean for the story?

First off, let's start with the goods. Charlize Theron took to Instagram to share a couple of photos from the set of Fast & Furious 9, which has been filming for several weeks now. She shared an image of her chair, which says "Cipher" on it, but the more compelling photo shows Theron with a much shorter hairdo, almost like a stylish bowl cut. That

‘Hobbs & Shaw’ Hustles Past $500M Overseas, Nears $700M Global; ‘Hollywood’ Closing In On $300M WW – International Box Office
Universal’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw continued to flex its muscles at the top of the international box office this weekend, smack-talking its way to another $39.1M in 69 markets. The overseas cume topped $500M in the session, hitting $525.3M as it approaches $700M global. The current worldwide cume is $684.2M through Sunday.

The holdover markets are tracking above Fast 6 (+33%) and below Fast 7 (-38%) and F8 (-41%), as expected. China was responsible for the bulk of Hobbs & Shaw’s overseas weekend, holding No. 1 in the market and now with a running cume of $166M, on track for a $200M finish. Overall, the Dwayne Johnson/Jason Statham-starrer should top out in the $725M-$750M global range.

Globally, H&S is estimated at No. 1 for a 4th weekend (though not consecutively), that would make it the only movie this year to have the honor. It is also the

‘Angel Has Fallen’ Leads Quiet Labor Day Box Office

  • The Wrap
Between the usual end-of-summer slowdown and the arrival of “It: Chapter Two” next week, there were no new wide releases in movie theaters for this Labor Day weekend, leaving an opening for Lionsgate/Millennium’s “Angel Has Fallen” to top the domestic charts for another week with an estimated $11.5 million 3-day second weekend.

By comparison, that’s slightly higher than the $10.9 million earned in the second weekend of “London Has Fallen” in 2016 and is a 46% drop from the $21.3 million opening earned by “Angel” last weekend. Through Labor Day, the film is projected to earn a $14.5 million extended weekend total to bring its domestic run to $43.5 million.

China Box Office: ‘Hobbs & Shaw’ Roars to Top With $101 Million Debut

China Box Office: ‘Hobbs & Shaw’ Roars to Top With $101 Million Debut
Revving up against a line-up completely devoid of serious competitors, “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” roared to the top of China’s box office with a $101 million debut, figures from consultancy Artisan Gateway show — more than four times the haul of the weekend’s second highest grossing title.

China is one of the franchise’s biggest fanbases in the world, and success in the territory can make or break a “Fast & Furious” film. The last two installments made more in China than they did in the U.S., with “The Fate of the Furious” bringing home a whopping $167 million more from mainland theaters than those at home.

“Hobbs & Shaw” similarly needs a win in China because — thanks to a a huge $200 million production budget and more than $125 million spent on distribution — analysts calculate that it must make $600 million globally in order to break even. It has made $148 million

Fast & Furious 9 Rumored to Bring Back Brian After Paul Walker's Brother Visits Set

Will Brian O'Connor reunite with his fast family in Fast & Furious 9? The sequel has been filming for several weeks now, with much of the original gang back together to deliver some high-speed, action-packed shenanigans. Sadly, Paul Walker passed away before the release of Furious 7, but thanks to a photo recently shared by Vin Diesel, there is at least a little room to speculate that Walker's character could make a return to the franchise.

When Paul Walker passed away before the release of Furious 7, his brothers Caleb and Cody Walker helped complete the movie. They stood in for Paul and, with the help of some CGI, they were able to send Brian O'Connor satisfyingly off into the sunset. That being the case, we didn't see Brian in The Fate of the Furious. However, both Caleb and Cody Walker previously made it clear the door wasn't totally closed

Box Office: ‘Hobbs & Shaw’ Scores $102 Million Debut in China, Nears $600 Million Globally
Universal’s “Hobbs & Shaw” returned to first place on the international box office charts, thanks to a massive $102 million debut in China.

The “Fast & Furious” spinoff, starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, collected another $120 million overseas, boosting its foreign tally to $441 million. “Hobbs & Shaw” is nearing the $600 million mark globally, with ticket sales currently hovering at a sizable $588 million.

In China, “Hobbs & Shaw” set numerous records, including the biggest August opening weekend ever and the second biggest Hollywood debut of the year behind Disney’s “Avengers: Endgame.” It also marks the franchise’s second-biggest launch in the Middle Kingdom, a record still held by 2017’s “The Fate of the Furious” with $184 million.

Disney’s “The Lion King” also hit a new benchmark, crossing $1.5 billion globally to become the ninth-highest grossing movie of all time. Overseas, Jon Favreau’s photorealistic remake of the animated classic is expected to surpass the $1 billion mark on Monday,

'Angel Has Fallen' Rises to Weekend #1 as 'Hobbs & Shaw' Delivers in China Bow

'Angel Has Fallen' Rises to Weekend #1 as 'Hobbs & Shaw' Delivers in China Bow
Lionsgate and Millennium's Angel Has Fallen outperformed expectations with a strong #1 debut, nearly matching its predecessor and giving Lionsgate its second #1 film of the year after John Wick 3. Also over-performing was Sony and Affirm's Overcomer while Universal's Hobbs & Shaw debuted in China with the largest August opening ever in the market. With an estimated $21.25 million, Lionsgate and Millennium's Angel Has Fallen topped the weekend box office, delivering a debut just shy of the $21.6 million opening for the previous installment in the Fallen franchise, London Has Fallen. To that point, while the film's opening weekend is the smallest in the franchise, it is the first to debut at #1 after both of the previous installments landed in the runner-up position, opening against major animated titles over their respective weekends. Angel had no such competition, debuting in the latter portion of August where box office performances are typically lighter. Looking ahead,

China promises big boost for ‘Hobbs & Shaw’ at international box office
The Universal franchise entry will be pursuing huge debut figures for its two predecessors.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is revving up for what Universal hopes will be a powerful start at the box office in China this weekend.

With an international gross currently standing at $319.2m, the franchise entry opens in China on Friday (August 23) and will easily lead the weekend’s international field. The only question is whether the ninth installment – which has so far taken a relatively modest $130.5m in North America - can match the impressive Chinese openings of its two predecessors.

Dwayne Johnson Tops The List Of The World’s Highest-Paid Actors

Considering just how popular the Marvel Cinematic Universe has proven this year, you might think that the world’s highest-paid actor would be Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., or Chris Evans. Oddly enough, if you guessed any of those three, you’d be totally wrong. Turns out, Hollywood’s most successful figure has yet to play a traditional comic book superhero.

As detailed by Forbes, the man who earned the most money as an actor was, in fact, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Between June 1st, 2018, and June 1st, 2019, he banked a whopping $89.4 million. This isn’t entirely shocking, either, considering some of Johnson’s movies have gone on to gross well over (or close to) $1 billion, including The Fate of the Furious and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

To help maximize his paycheck, Dwayne have hammered out a formula that capitalizes on his stardom. Not only does he get an
