During the Lazer Team Indiegogo campaign, Rooster Teeth put up a $5 pledge that had a 1 person limit, with the reward being a place on camera in the film. So many people tried to get this reward at once that the system bugged and gave it to 535 people. This group were all allowed to keep the reward and have been nicknamed "The Infamous 535".

The film was funded via Indiegogo, and although the original goal was $650,000 Rooster Teeth managed to raise a total of $2,480,421 from 37,497 funders. The amount raised meant that Lazer Team became the most funded film campaign ever on Indiegogo, at the time.

Gavin Free was ill with food poisoning during filming and almost missed one day of shooting. In fact, Free got past this issue by shoving tissue paper into his trousers to avoid 'leaking'.

When Zach does his signature "roll the dice" move at the opening football game, the reactions of three cheerleaders are seen. While two (played by Barbara Dunkelman and Arryn Zech) are disgusted, the third gives Zach the "call me" gesture. This cheerleader is played by Lindsay Jones, wife of Michael Jones, who plays Zach.

It was leaked during Rooster Teeth Podcast #315 that the movie will come out in August 2015. Its premiere at Fantastic Fest in Rooster Teeth's hometown of Austin, Texas was actually September 24, 2015. It was announced on Rooster Teeth Podcast #349 it will be released cinematically and on YouTube's paid subscription service YouTube Red on January 27, 2016. There will also be a traditional cinematic release starting on January 29, 2016.

The appearance of Ed from the band Barenaked Ladies as a news anchor is a reference to the music video of "Odds Are," which was also produced by Rooster Teeth. In the video, he plays a part of a news team alongside his band members as the apocalypse happens around the world. Also in this music video are a numerous amount of Rooster Teeth employees who also appeared in the movie, i.e. Gus Sorola, Burnie Burns, and Blaine Gibson.
