Russo on the Living Dead

The Origins of the Living Dead (2012)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

David Gregory directs this sixteen minute featurette, which is an interview with John A. Russo. Russo starts off talking about his involvement in NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and how he eventually broke away from George Romero. From here he talks about the legal issues of Romero being able to make a sequel and him getting to keep "Living Dead" in the title but as a non-sequel. From here we get into the production of THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD and how it ended up doing much better than Romero's DAY OF THE DEAD. There are several very good stories told here and you can tell that Russo is very happy with the film and the fact that it did so much better than his partner's movie. His also briefly talks about the sequels and even his plans for future installments like ESCAPE FROM THE LIVING DEAD, which to this day has yet to be made.
