A Brief History of Slasher Films (2011)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

This fifteen-minute featurette has author Adam Rockoff discussing the history of the slasher movie. With just fifteen-minutes there's obviously not enough time to get into great details about the film or the genre but if you're new to the genre or are wanting to introduce someone new to the genre then this here would be the perfect thing to show them. Just about every slasher starting with PSYCHO and running into BLACK Christmas and then the out pouring after Friday THE 13TH are mentioned and we get into the SCREAM era as well as the current trend of remakes. Rockoff certainly keeps the conversation moving and he's very entertaining as he explains the various rules in these films as well as talking about other topics including the controversy surrounding them.
