Netflix Just Cancelled Two Of Its Best New Shows

Netflix Just Cancelled Two Of Its Best New Shows
We hope you weren’t getting too invested in V-Wars or October Faction…

The two Netflix original series – which premiered on December 5th and January 23rd, respectively – have officially been canned by the online streaming giant, and will now join the likes of Messiah, Aj and the Queen, Spinning Out, Soundtrack and Daybreak in the Netflix graveyard.

It’s a sudden change of fate for both original series, given they’ve only just been released into the wild. But as The Hollywood Reporter notes, Netflix has now pulled the plug on each of them, quashing any hopes for a second season of V-Wars. Or indeed the comic book-inspired October Faction.

The former series starred Vampire Diaries favorite Ian Somerhalder, who played the part of Dr. Luther Swann. Somerhalder’s brooding character gets a front-row seat to the end of days, after a mysterious disease transforms his best friend, Michael Fayne,

‘V-Wars,’ ‘October Faction’ Canceled at Netflix After One Season Each
Both “V-Wars” and “October Faction” have been canceled at Netflix after airing just one season apiece, Variety has confirmed.

The two shows are both produced by Idw Entertainment, which is also behind the Netflix series adaptation of “Locke & Key.” News of the twin cancellations comes just after Netflix announced a season 2 pick up for the third series.

In “V-Wars,” Dr. Luther Swann (Ian Somerhalder) enters a world of untold horror when a mysterious disease transforms his best friend, Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes), into a murderous predator who feeds on other humans. As the disease spreads and more people are transformed, society fractures into opposing camps pitting normal people against the growing number of these “vampires.” The first season debuted on Dec. 9, 2019.

According to sources, Netflix and Somerhalder are in talks to collaborate on more projects in the future.

William Laurin and Glenn Davis served as showrunners on “V-Wars.” Brad Turner

Watch: Netflix Announces Locke & Key Season 2 With New Teaser
Fans of Netflix’s Locke & Key rejoice, as the streaming giant has officially confirmed that the show will return for a second season (watch the announcement in the tweet below). The series, based on the long-running comics of the same name by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, quickly picked up a dedicated fanbase on the platform and was always expected to be renewed for more.

The news will no doubt be a vindication for showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill, who finally managed to get the project off the ground on Netflix after a prolonged and painful gestation period. This incarnation of the show actually began development as a Hulu series, only for them to decide to pass on it and Netflix to scoop it up. Given the positive reaction to the adaptation, Hulu may now be regretting their decision.

Cuse and Averill released a statement showing their happiness at the news,

The raunchy gal-pal comedy “Girls Trip” was a box-office coup for Universal Pictures in 2017, collecting more than $140 million worldwide and spawning meme after meme — including that scene about the many unorthodox functions of a grapefruit. While an official sequel has yet to get the greenlight, with talks of a follow-up dating back to early 2019, Tiffany Haddish recently gave a status update on a possible second film to The Huffington Post from the comforts of quarantine.

Haddish said that she and her co-stars Queen Latifah, Regina Hall, and Jada Pinkett Smith have been regularly keeping in touch about what shape “Girls Trip 2″ could take. Haddish also added that Tracy Oliver, who co-wrote the script for the first film with Kenya Barris, has a treatment ready to go.
