One of the Best Spoofs Out There

Evil Head (2012)

*** (out of 4)

Joanna Angel and Burning Pictures took on both THE EXORCIST and RE-ANIMATOR so why not take on the Sam Raimi classic and spoof it as a horror film? In the film, Angel, her boyfriend and another couple head out to a creepy cabin where they have a lot of sex, listen to a mysterious tape and then turn into demons where there's even more sex. EVIL HEAD is without question a very good spoof and I think you can easily call it one of the better spoofs out there since Mel Brooks was in his prime. Yes, I know that is high praise but the filmmakers obviously wanted to do something special here and it's clear that a lot of love and passion went into the production. The spoof elements are quite funny at times and especially Tommy Pistol's performance as he tries to mirror Bruce Campbell. Even funnier is some of the dialogue early on, which leads to a rather rough threesome. Many famous moments from THE EVIL DEAD are spoofed here including the legendary chainsaw, the Book of the Dead but the most memorable sequence here is the tree/rape sequence. Seeing how this gets played out here is just oh so wrong on so many levels yet it's so creative and naughty that you can't help but watch, laugh and have fun with it. In case I forgot to mention it, this is a porno so we're given all sorts of sex sequences and again, as with the studio's other films, the appeal will probably be limited but there's still no question that they were well-filmed and performed. Still, this film is mainly going to appeal to fans of Angel and the Sam Raimi movie. It's hard to believe at how well this thing turned out and even the nearly two and half hour running time didn't feel overly long.
