Dexter is certain that Zach Hamilton killed his next door neighbor Cassie, who is found bludgeoned to death in her apartment. The scene suggests that the crime was impulsive rather than planned, as was the case with the death of Norma Rivera. Dexter finds Zach's blood under her fingernails but can't report it for obvious reasons. Zach is in the Keys - he's used his credit card - and Dexter and Hannah set off to find him. What he finds there impresses Dexter but also suggests that Zach isn't the killer. Meanwhile, Dexter is also helping Hannah acquire a new identity and make arrangements to leave the country. There is a strong bond between them however and Dexter begins to see a different future for himself.

(at around 26 mins) Dexter spots plastic in the window of room #129. This tips him off that this is Zack's "kill room". Dexter picks the lock and as he walks in we see that there is plastic covering the entire room. First, there would not likely be plastic between the blinds and the window as we first see, as it would 1: draw attention and 2: the blood spatter would hit the blinds on the inside, not the plastic. Then as Dexter opens the door, we see there is also plastic sheeting on the inside of the blinds that would prevent blood spatter from hitting blinds but also makes plastic behind blinds unnecessary, except for tipping Dexter off that this is the "kill room" of course. Every contact leaves a trace. That idea is the foundation of all crime scene analysis. I should be focused on who bludgeoned Cassie and why. But instead ever since Hannah came back into my orbit, she's all I can think about.
