'Walking Dead' Star Norman Reedus Gets Biker Reality Series on AMC

AMC announced today that it has greenlit the non-fiction series Ride with Norman Reedus (working title), which will debut in 2016. Six one-hour episodes will follow actor and biker-enthusiast Norman Reedus as he takes viewers on a ride on the open road to explore local motorcycle culture and its history and celebrate some of the best and brightest collectors, mechanics and motorcycle craftsmen around the country. The series is produced by Left/Right Productions.

Each episode of Ride will begin in a different city where Norman Reedus and his riding companion - a fellow actor, musician, friend, or local chopper fanatic who shares his passion for motorcycles - will journey to a new destination. USA Orders Donny Deutsch Comedy to Series
USA Network has ordered what it’s calling a “soft-scripted” comedy, “Donny!,” to series.

Premiering later this year, it has ordered six episodes of the half-hour show that takes a satirical view at the media, wealth and romance through the life of lead star Donny Deutsch, advertising mogul and former host of CNBC’s “The Big Idea.”

Deutsch will play a fictionalized version of himself as a daytime talk show host with all the answers. But when the cameras turn off, he’ll have to face his own personal struggles from dating to being a single dad.

Game of Arms, Small Town Security, Freakshow: Cancelled by AMC

AMC is getting out of the reality show business and is cancelling several shows. Other than The Walking Dead aftershow Talking Dead and Kevin Smith’s Comic Book Men, the cable channel has decided to focus solely on scripted series.

Production on Game of Arms, which was recently renewed for a second season, will shut down immediately. Small Town Security and Freakshow have also been cancelled.

Producers on the dropped shows will have the option of finding another home for their series, with AMC’s full cooperation. This includes two other projects with Smith and Chris Hardwick's All-Star Celebrity Bowling.

The Walking Dead ‘Dead, White, and Blue’ Weekend Includes Season 5 Preview Special

Have you been hungry for more of The Walking Dead since the Season 4 finale aired? If so, AMC has something to sate your appetite until Season 5 premieres this fall. Once again Louie dared visit a topic that TV has otherwise avoided by acknowledging that men use sex toys. Jokes about women’s vibrators have become commonplace, but a similar joke about men is acknowledging a truth that’s mostly ignored. It was a brilliant bit for the season opener, with the kind of brutal honesty that makes Louie one of TV’s best comedies.

Damon Wayans Jr. will be a series regular on the fourth season of New Girl. Now that that’s been taken care of, when can we get some kind of Happy Endings reunion?

Confirming reports from late last year, AMC and Sony Pictures Television have officially announced that they’ll be working together to develop a Preacher TV series on AMC, with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Sam Catlin:

GLAAD Media Awards Announces 2014 Nominees

With two big ceremonies coming up (April 12th in Los Angeles and May 3rd in New York City), the 2014 GLAAD Media Awards has a ton of great nominees all vying for a trophy.

On the film end of things, “Dallas Buyers Club” and “Blue is the Warmest Color” both received nods, and “Orange is the New Black” and “Pretty Little Liars” lead the way for television.

GLAAD Media Award Nominees Announced

This morning the national Lgbt media advocacy organization GLAAD announced nominees for the 25th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. According to GLAAD President Sarah Kate Ellis, the year “has brought momentous progress for Lgbt people and families – and our nominees have created images and stories that continue to challenge misconceptions, shatter stereotypes, and change hearts and minds of millions all across the globe.”

There are 130 nominees in 29 categories but a few notable honorees include wide release films Dallas Buyers Club, Philomena and Kill Your Darlings, all of which were previously reviewed here on TheBacklot.

In the limited release category, Geography Club scored a nod. (The film is based on the classic Ya novel by AfterElton alum Brent Hartinger.)

In the outstanding TV drama category, ABC Family scored 2 nominees: The Fosters and Pretty Little Liars.
