Very entertaining

Beth is a wife and mother married to a postmaster in Burning Bush, Texas. Her friend Tess gave money for a mobile breast cancer screening truck in her will, but the money is about to run out because no one realized the state required the funding to be renewed each year.

Beth's daughter Jocelyn plays on the local high school basketball team. Beth was on a championship team when she was in high school back in the Stone Age, and she has an idea. Raise the money for breast cancer screening by getting the team back together, and play against the high school girls.

Florine is the town's first black mayor and trying to get elected for the first time (like Gerald Ford, she somehow inherited the job). There's no way she's going to do anything that makes her look silly.

Roxie is an overweight stoner who appears unlikely to make a contribution. She does have a way of bribing the likely referee. It's not clear what she does for a living other than selling pot.

Clementine works at the grocery and the last thing she wants to do is play against a team coached by her ex, who thinks the whole idea is ridiculous anyway.

Ginger is the other member of the team. She's tough not feminine. i was surprised to find out she was Daryl Hannah.

All appears lost, right?

A couple of other characters need to be mentioned. Kayla is the holier-than-thou and judgmental mom of Millie, one of Jocelyn's teammates. They go to the same church as Beth's family, and Kayla's husband is gone a lot working on oil rigs.

Somehow the women do put together a team, but there is one obstacle after another. It is agreed that the women must lose by no more than 20 points in the first game. But even if they do that, can they attract enough people to raise all the money needed? other money will come from betting.

The first game goes as expected, but there are more obstacles to overcome. in the second game, Roxie gets the ref she wanted and anything goes. But that has consequences, another obstacle that must be dealt with.

Will it happen? Will this team actually raise the money they need? Will they win any of their games?

At least one more problem must be overcome: Beth's husband might be cheating. Wait ... what? She looks like that and he cheats on HER? Not possible. She must be paranoid. Men cheat with women like Beth.

I enjoyed this a lot. It may be no better than a silly TV movie, but for what this is, the acting and writing are good. Of course it's a formula. I like the formula.

There is also an inspiring story. Nothing come easy for the women, but then everything seems to work out eventually. only in the movies.

And there are a number of moral dilemmas. The girls have to do everything they can to sabotage what the women are doing, right? But what about the cause the women are fighting for? Well, there is one other reason the girls might see the light.

And it's not all funny. There is some unexpected drama, but even that seems to work out in a good way.

Brooke Shields is as good as she ever was. Not a great actress, but good for this type of material. And she still looked amazing. And she was the only one wearing short shorts in practice, though Clementine also wore them in the games.

Wanda Sykes and Camryn Manheim are more highly regarded as actresses, and they're both good here.

I do have one complaint. Too much rap music. The games between the women and the girls were accompanied by music that to me isn't music. Now the first game played, between two high school teams, had "We Got the Beat" by The Go-Gos--even though that's from the era when the women were in high school. Not typical of my taste, but I like it.

Most of the music in the movie was good, such as the background music with tuba that reminded us we were supposed to be laughing. And square dance music, and real country music.

If you like silly formula comedy, you should enjoy this.
