The Thailand International Film Destination Festival wrapped on April 29, with awards presented to the winners of the Amazing Thailand Film Challenge.

The short film competition involves 112 filmmakers, both students and professionals, flying to Thailand to make a short film in seven days.

The New Talent Award for Best Film went to Man by Charlotte Rabate and Chananun Chotrungroj, while Return Of The Golden Lily, directed by Takashi Hirose and Magnus Orn Thors, won the Experienced Vision Award for Best Film.

Launched last year, the festival aims to showcase Thailand as an international shooting destination, and also featured screenings of films that have shot in Thailand such as Peter Fudakowski’s Secret Sharer, Roy Alfred Jr’s Glory Days and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

Freestyle sets Paradise release

Freestyle Digital Media (Fdm) and Freestyle Releasing will distribute Corrado Boccia’s Bangkok-set action thriller A Stranger In Paradise day-and-date theatrically and digitally on February 14.

Colin Egglesfield plays an ambitious financier who flees to Bangkok when his boss gets embroiled in an insider trading probe and falls foul of the Thai mafia. Stuart Townsend and Catalina Moreno also star.

Freestyle Digital Media CEO Susan Jackson brokered the deal with Edward Noeltner, president of worldwide rights holder Cinema Management Group.

“Who doesn’t love a great action film?” said Jackson, “This well-acted, strong cast thriller is a great day-and-date addition to the Freestyle family.”

Odette Annable To Recur On CBS’ ‘Golden Boy’, Byron Mann On CW’s ‘Arrow’

Exclusive: House alumna Odette Annable has been tapped for a recurring role on CBS’ midseason drama Golden Boy, about the meteoric rise of a cop (Theo James) from his days as an officer to detective to police commissioner. Annable will play Ada Kat O’Connor, a young, attractive Assistant District Attorney with a complicated marital history who prosecutes cases brought by the squad. Annable also just booked a recurring role on the upcoming Cinemax drama Banshee, marking the second consecutive year that the actress will juggle two series simultaneously after doing Fox’s House and Breaking In last season. Byron Mann has landed a recurring role on CW’s new drama series Arrow. In a multi-episode arc, Mann will play “an enigmatic man who has a complex connection to Oliver Queen/Arrow (Stephen Amell). Famous Monsters has received word that Benetone Films and Hillin Entertainment have tabbed young writer-director James Cullen Bressack (Treasure Chest Of Horrors) for a top secret horror film filming in Thailand in January 2013.

Their last production A Stranger In Paradise was also shot in Thailand and featured the talents of Colin Egglesfield (Melrose Place) and Catalina Sandino Moreno (Oscar nominee for Maria Full Of Grace). There isn’t a lot of information at this point, but we will keep our ears to the ground.

Indie Filmmaker James Cullen Bressak Helming Secret Horror Project to be Filmed in Thailand

An email landed in our inbox today from indie whiz kid James Cullen Bressack about a new super-secret horror project he's going to be working on next year, and while details are scarce, we thought we'd help him break the news.

Benetone Films and Hillin Entertainment have tapped Bressack (Theatre of the Deranged, My Pure Joy) to write and direct a fully financed horror film to be shot in Thailand in January of 2013. The project will be produced by Rachvin Narula, Kulthep Narula, and Daemon Hillin. Benetone and Hillin are coming off of A Stranger In Paradise, which was also shot in Thailand and stars Colin Egglesfield, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Byron Mann, and Stuart Townsend.

The new project's storyline is being kept under wraps for now, but Bressack promises it will provide horror fans "a frightful good time." Look for more soon!
