The addition of Allie Kingston was never fully explained other than she was joining the team from another unit. However it becomes apparent that Nadine Garner was pregnant, so Nadia Townsend was brought in as the operational female detective. Since the beginning of series 3, Garner's role is limited to being seen sitting at a desk or table or from behind, which allowed her to hide her pregnancy. She gave birth to her second child in 2009, the same year as this series aired. In City Homicide: The First Stone (2009) she was transferred to another unit and thus removed from the series for several shows.
