Twenty-something blond women have been abducted in the Olympia, Washington area. The abductions have taken place about three months apart. The dead bodies of three of the four abducted have just been found, the bodies embalmed causing the deaths. The autopsies also show the abductor is a necrophiliac. Sandra Lombardini, the mother of Brooke Lombardini, the only abducted woman not found, has hired a clairvoyant, Stanley Usher, to help provide information on the case. Usher states that he knows Brooke is still alive. Among the BAU, Rossi in particular is angry about Usher's participation in the case. As the BAU do their analysis to get close to identifying the possible abductor, J.J. thinks that Usher may be able to fill in the missing piece of the puzzle. Written by Huggo

Around the 29 minute mark, while the lead detective is questioning a suspect, he makes a remark about "Do you think I'm the only guy in town who likes to crack open a cold one?" and the camera focuses on Reid's reaction. His chin visibly trembles, as if he's trying not to laugh. I can't imagine the character doing that. See more »

User Reviews

Neither cold or comforting
11 March 2017 | by TheLittleSongbirdSee all my reviews

When on form, and even better at its best, 'Criminal Minds' is one of my most watched and most re-watched shows and is a personal favourite. It is nowhere near as good now, but there are still good to great episodes made every now and then when the show doesn't forget what it's about, but Seasons 1-5 was its prime period.

Season 4 is a strong contender for the best season of 'Criminal Minds', one where picking favourites is hard and where even lesser episodes of the season (in the case of Season 4 "Demonology" and "Catching Out") are significantly better than the worst episodes of Seasons 6, 9 and 11. "Cold Comfort" is not one of the best Season 4 episodes, but while a lesser episode of the season it's nowhere near close to being one of the show's overall worst.

"Cold Comfort" is a little lacking in suspense and could have been tauter, and while there are some lovely character moments and team interaction JJ is bland this time round and while understands the doubts Rossi's hostility was uncalled for and over-the-top. Cybill Shepherd does a good job in her role, as does all the supporting cast (including a very creepy unsub) but is underused.

However, as said the team interaction is delightful and there are some lovely character moments, such as the hilarious horoscope part and Reid referencing Ed Gein. The case is a twisted and quite creepy one, dealing with loss of a loved one in a very unconventional way. Things aren't too simplistic or convoluted, much serves a point with little inconsequential and the team work cohesively.

Production values as always are very high in quality, being atmospheric and stylish, while the music has the right amount of the ominous touch and the pathos. The direction is alert and sympathetic, the script is thought-provoking and the acting from all is very good.

In conclusion, pretty good though could have been better. 7/10 Bethany Cox
