Julie's one-sided article about the road through the playing fields isn't accepted by Mr. Robson without a piece that states a counter viewpoint. While avoiding his nemesis, Gary, who's still mad over the lonely hearts mix-up, Dennis ducks down in the Secretary's Office, and overhears that Lucy's needed at home. She's not quite sure to believe him after recent fiascos, but walks to her house with Dennis. There she finds an ambulance outside and her mother being wheeled into it, unconscious and with a drip attached. Mr. Robson, drives up, having been alerted, and not finding Lucy in her class. Mr. Hankin wants to take Year Seven for a "night at the museum" - the Science Museum, if he can find a suitable female chaperon. In the end his classroom assistant Dorothy, volunteers, and they head out. Night falls, and Lucy's still at hospital, in the waiting area with her mother still in a coma. A doctor explains that Lucy's mother has most likely got a form of Meningitis. At the Science ...
