The title of this episode "What kind of day has it been," has been used as an episode title on every show Aaron Sorkin has created. At first he used it as the title for the season one finales of his shows, as it was with his first series, Sports Night, as well as with his second series, the West Wing. Here, however, as the show was canceled it doubled as the title of the first season finale but also, unintentionally, the series finale. For Sorkin's series after this one, The Newsroom, he opted not to use "What kind of day has it been" as the title of that show's first season finale but he did select as the title of the show's planned series finale at the end of the third season.
