Storyline

After a secret meeting with Lionel, Lana is shot at the Daily Planet by a mysterious gunman. Jimmy is knocked out while studying photographs of the scene and dreams about a 1940, black-and-white version, of Smallville. Jimmy finds himself playing the role of a reporter with Chloe his secretary, and a bumbling Clark also works there, as his sidekick. Jimmy's investigation leads him to Lana, who turns out to be a very evil femme fatale who plans to orchestrate the murder of her tycoon husband Lex by using Jimmy as the patsy. Jimmy's research further takes him to a notorious nightclub owned by Lionel Luther, and Lois is a sultry singer working at club who is having a fling with Lex to help him orchestrate the murder of Lana. Meanwhile, back in 2007, Clark discovers why Lana married Lex after Chloe learns it from Lana. Also, Lois further meddles in the shooting case by stealing a silver-lined cigarette case which holds a clue. Written by Anonymous

Trivia

At 25:40, a sign which reads "Daily Planet Building" is shown, establishing that the next sequence takes place at the Daily Planet. This is almost identical to the sign which is frequently shown in Adventures of Superman (1952) for the same reason. See more »

Goofs

Chloe shows the newspaper to Jimmy with his photograph on it. The photograph is not the same when a close-up is shown. See more »

Quotes

Lionel Luthor: You stroll in here with this crackerjack kid... You trying to land me in the cooler?
Clark Kent: Cool your jets, Mack. Jimmy's here just a little down on love. Ain't you, Jimmy?
Lionel Luthor: Poor sucker. Man, dame's his poison.

I never liked episodes of "Magnum P.I." that did stuff like this (a black and white episode where the main characters appear in an old-movie type story).

"Noir" did not do much to advance the plot line of that season. Though the affection for old movies is obvious.

It is one of the least interesting episodes in the series.

Oh, yeah, I never liked it when "JAG" did this either. One day they had a "JAG" marathon of all "fantasy" episodes, nothing with the characters in their normal setting. The one where everyone was back in the 1960's was okay, though.

"Smallville" is my favorite show, and "Noir" is pretty weak.
