Lovestruck Lou
7 August 2019 | by JordanThomasHallSee all my reviews

Lou instantly falls in love with a diner's counter girl, Jean Wilson (lovely Jean Porter) on her last day. She rudely rebuffs Lou's attempts to talk to her. Jean is an aspiring actress who has moved into their apartment house. A lovestruck Lou is upset to see a man, Rex (Glenn Langan) entering her apartment. He is an actor who is rehearsing with Jean a Civil War melodrama entitled "South of Dixie". They read their parts, with Rex being an aggressive suitor to Jean's Southern belle. Lou overhears and thinks she is in trouble. Hearing screams, Lou, Bud, and Mr. Fields break in only to learn of the play. Lou's impassioned attempts leave the actors impressed and offer him the role of her boyfriend, Clem, a Union spy. Lou, Bud, Mr. Fields, and Mike the Cop join the cast of "South of Dixie" as they perform the play at The Little Theatre, (comprising the second half of the episode).

The episode is inspired in part by "The General", starring Buster Keaton who co-directed the film with Clyde Bruckman, who wrote this episode.
