Trivia

On May 22nd 2007, after just two episodes, Anne Foy announced on CBBC on BBC One that the show had been postponed due to recent events in the news and would later in the year on CBBC on BBC One. Since Roman Mysteries: The Pirates of Pompeii (2008) was about children being kidnapped, the postponement was most likely due to the then recent disappearance of Madeline McCann. On 19th June the series began broadcasting again from the beginning. See more »

Review of 'Roman Mysteries' episode 1-3
20 June 2007 | by madeleine_tuzSee all my reviews

It was an engaging series for people who have not read the books on which the series is based. The special effects were a little dodgy, but the acting was good, and this combined with great costumes and set more than made up for this.

However the pronunciation of Flavia as 'FLAY-via' instead of 'FLAH-via' began to grate on my nerves, although the author first wrote that the former pronunciation was correct, she later (source: roman mysteries website) she admitted that it was incorrect. The little things annoy me - such as the condensed script - but these concessions had to be made to fit the books into the episodes.
