Mexican revolutionary Bernal Sierra escapes the firing squad in Mexico where he was questioned about his friend Miguel who was buying guns. Later, Bernal joins the wagon train when he encounters it at night. He finds the wife of Miguel there married to a gun runner, Casey Reardon, who is accompanied by his two brothers. They are taking a load of brandy to California. An attempt is made on Bernal life resulting in Bernal wounding one of the brothers he believes tried to shoot him. Bernal catches Perdita in lies about Miguel's death and asks about the gold Miguel had. Bernal suspects Casey and the group have the gold but his attempts to find it fail and Casey's death seems to end the issue - maybe.
