Astronaut Adam Cook crash lands on an Earth-like planet several light-years away. His ship is badly damaged and beyond repair. He manages to contact his home base but they have little encouragement for him. They don't have a replacement spacecraft to rescue him and the security situation is such that they may soon be at war. Cook readies himself to make a home on his new world when he discovers another inhabitant, a human-like female from another world. Cook talks to his home planet like they were on the same planet (i.e. no delay between the comments). He has stated that he is 4.3 light years away. If he sent a message it would take 4.3 years to get back to his planet and another 4.3 years to receive the response.
