The sheriff received a message to keep Jim Hardie in town until a stagecoach arrives that has a troublesome passenger. The passenger also has some "extra" baggage - a billiards table. When the stage stops, the driver pulls back the flap on the boot to reveal the passenger sleeping there because he wanted to. He is still drunk so Jim has to be careful in waking and handling him. After he falls asleep on the table, he is moved to a hotel room where Jim awakens him the next morning. Jim takes him to breakfast at the saloon but the man is more interested in beer. After his morning exercise routine of beating several men at once, he reveals he is John L. Sullivan who is trying for the boxing world championship. After this a man known as Abner Dabler comes in looking to make some money by allowing people to try to hit him as he feels no pain. However, with his great strength Sullivan appears to paralyze Dabner causing Sullivan to think about leaving boxing due to his distress.
