Baloo: Uh, so y-you see, Rebecca, this sick aunt of mine really needs my help, and I thought...
Rebecca: What was this aunt's name again, Baloo?
Baloo: Uh, eh, uh *Milly* Y-yeah, that's it! Aunt Milly!
Rebecca: Milly. Heh, that makes twenty-three sick aunts in the last six months.
Baloo: Uh, well, uh, you see, Pop's side of the family was never very healthy.

Search for the lost idol
21 July 2018 | by TheLittleSongbirdSee all my reviews

'Talespin' has always been a show dear to my heart. One of those favourites from a young age that holds up really well, and is even more entertaining through adult eyes from appreciating the writing and stories even more.

Have been on a roll reviewing individual episodes for certain shows, animated, non-animated and of as many genres as possible (many as part of certain quests), and decided to do it with 'Talespin' and some others. Something that, as expected and hoped, has proven to be a more than worthwhile project and experience. "The Idol Rich" is a very good episode if a favourite, just lacking the extra something and the villain while fun is not one of the most memorable or interesting (as unfair as it is to compare, give me Shere Khan and Don Karnage any day).

The animation is very colourful and atmospheric as always. The music matches what is going on perfectly and it is impossible to forget or resist the theme song, one of the catchiest for anything Disney and ever.

Writing is witty, very funny without being too silly and thought-probing without being complicated. Things don't get too childish and it is all easy to follow. The story is hugely compelling and lively in pace without being rushed, and executes a nice idea imaginatively.

Baloo is a very fun and likeable character as always. Kit is neither too cute or too bratty, an appealing kid rather than an annoying one and his chemistry with Baloo has heart. Rebecca is charming and suitably shrewd and ambitious without it going overboard that it grates.

Voice acting is terrific, Michael Gough enjoying himself. Ed Gilbert is a spirited Baloo. Sally Struthers brings spunk and charm.

Overall, very enjoyable once again. 8/10 Bethany Cox
