Storyline

Sam Lavelle, who is up for promotion after tests he takes with fellow ensigns, fears Riker has it in for him. Sito Jaxa is told by Picard she shouldn't even have been admitted to the course after her cowardly conduct as Starfleet Academy cadet. Worf takes care of the close combat training. While the trainee officers wrestle with their hopes and honor, the Enterprise has to shift focus to a real operation. This involves a covert mission with a Cardassian, for which a cadet is selected after some doubts have been lifted by hidden psychological tests. Written by KGF Vissers

Goofs

After the ensign is ordered to return to the original heading (about six minutes in), the ensign replies, "Aye, aye, sir!" Riker then admonishes him with "One 'aye' will be sufficient, ensign." This is incorrect. "Aye, sir" is used when agreeing with or replying to a senior officer. "Aye, aye, sir!" is used when acknowledging an order. See more »

Quotes

Sito Jaxa: [responding to an earlier criticism on her from Picard] If you didn't want me on your ship, you should have said so when I was assigned to it. It's not your place to punish me for what I did at the Academy. I've worked hard here. My record is exemplary. If you're going to judge me, judge me for what I am now.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: Very well, Ensign, I will. It took courage to come here and face me after what I said to you the other day.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard: And Ensign - I do know why you ended up on the Enterprise. I asked for you....

Those noble officers not on the bridge
11 September 2017 | by Mr-FusionSee all my reviews

I'm pretty sure I'd only seen parts of 'Lower Decks' over the years, and seeing it in its entirety was an eye-opener. A creative look at the lower-level officers that populate the Enterprise, it also reframed the main cast (those all-too-familiar faces we see from week to week) as administrative department heads. Yeah, it's kind of a workplace episode. And as each character achieves clarity throughout the story, a fluffy ending is almost guaranteed; that is, until a late-hour plot twist turns that right on its head.

Highly potent stuff.
