Storyline

Lucas McCain travels to a nearby town looking for a fellow member of the North Fork Cattleman's Association who has failed to return home. En route, he comes across a gambling hall owner named Griff who is trying to scare one of his patrons into paying off his gambling debts. Lucas puts a stop to it and takes Griff into the local Marshal who seems less than interested in what is going on. There's more to the Marshal than meets the eye however and he introduces Lucas to the concept of ballistics. He also has every intention of using science to prove that Grigg is responsible for killing Lucas friend. Written by garykmcd

Trivia

Final of three appearances of Harold J. Stone. His first and last appearances were very near the beginning and end of the series. In this final appearance, he was at first portrayed as a bad guy that was really a good guy. Similarly, in his initial appearance in Season 1 in The Rifleman: Home Ranch (1958) he was at first the bad guy that had a change of heart and turned good. See more »

Chuck Conners leaves everyone at home in this program.

Even though this episode had some nice guest-stars like Harold J Stone and Richard Anderson the episode seemed lost without Paul Fix, Patricia Blair and mostly Johnny Crawford. It was a Lucas program where all the action happened in a nearby town.

Lucas arrives at a town searching for a friend but runs into a man named Griff (Richard Anderson) who owns a gambling joint and has his own way of justice. Giff is taking revenge on a man and Lucas takes him to the local Marshal (Harold J Stone).

At first Lucas is not too happy with the Marshal because he lets Griff go without charging him. But Lucas will learn that the Marshal is ahead of his time and really want the law to prevail in his town.

With the nice stars in the cast it just did not produce the kind of action we are accustom to when watching the series. There was nothing wrong with the acting but the story really had little interest. With the Marshal using methods that was too advanced for the period, the entire program seemed ineffective. Between the story and the deputy, this show was lacking.
