Storyline

After running away from the Bayliss Sanitarium, Evelyn Forbes makes her way to Los Angeles to confront her ex-husband Clinton Forbes. She wants to get her fortune back but there seems to be little chance of that.Evelyn's brother Arthur Cartwright hires Paul Drake to find her and then follows her to Los Angeles to bring her back to his home. It also gives him a chance to see his ex-wife Polly, who left him for Forbes. Cartwright consults Perry about estate law, particularly if a will is affected should a man be executed for a criminal act. He tells Perry that Forbes is a crook who marries rich women to get his hands on their money. He assures Perry that he's not about to commit a capital crime but when Clinton Forbes is found dead, it's his sister Evelyn who is charged with murder. It's the dead man's dog, also killed, that provides the clue Perry needs to identify the true murderer. Written by garykmcd

Among her credits are a dozen appearances as girl next door Polly Benedict in the studio's most successful franchise, the Andy Hardy movies, supporting roles opposite many of M-G-M's biggest name stars, and her most widely seen performance, as Scarlet O'Hara's youngest sister Careen in Gone with the Wind. Goofs

When Perry is talking to Bill Johnson in his trophy room, Johnson is holding a game football with the game score painted on it in white letters. When Johnson puts the football up on a mantle, the ball rolls and comes to a stop with the writing on the ball not showing. But when the scene moves back to Perry's perspective, the writing is visible again. See more »

Affecting music
22 November 2018 | by mark-samsonSee all my reviews

A great episode, as others have already described. I'll just add that there is some unusually affecting music playing while the killer confesses in court. It doesn't last long. It's probably some stock music from the studio sound library, but it made me think of Bernard Hermann, who scored some of Hitchcock's films.
