Storyline

George Beaumont is being blackmailed by an insurance investigator, Harry Folsom. Beaumont throws him out but his girlfriend Ruth Whittaker gives him $7000 to just go away. In Los Angeles, Perry Mason is shocked when Della mentions that George Beaumont called him while he was out as Beaumont was supposed to have been killed in a plane crash four years before. Beaumont had in fact missed the flight that crashed but as he and his wife had not been getting along, he decided to start a new life. He's now returned to Los Angeles intent on making contact with his wife Laura, now a successful businesswoman. When Beaumont is found dead, however, it's Ruth Whittaker who is charged with murder and Perry agrees to defend her. Written by garykmcd

Trivia

Beginning with this episode, a new opening credit sequence was shot. Perry receives a folder from the judge in a courtroom, just as in the first season sequence, and passes it around for the other marquee characters to examine. But this time, said characters are not all sitting at one table; Paul and Della are sitting at the defense counsel's table, and Burger and Tragg are sitting at the prosecutor's table. See more »

Goofs

When Folsom goes to Ruth Whittaker's home to pick up the blackmail money, he makes a point of noticing the missing cuff link from his right shirt cuff and the sleeve remains noticeably without a cuff link during the scene, but there is no further reference to this. See more »

Quotes

[first lines]
George Hartley Beaumont: Well, now, this is all very interesting. It shows a lot of work and a lot of imagination. I never realized you folks were so efficient. All right, Folsom, who put you onto me?
Harry Folsom: I'm so happy you're taking this attitude. I was afraid there'd be nothing but denials.
George Hartley Beaumont: Now, where would that get me?

A man dies twice in this suspect-filled mystery
11 April 2013 | by kfo9494See all my reviews

The episode begins when a insurance investigator named Harry Folsom is blackmailing a man named George Beaumont concerning the faking of his death. It seemed that he was suppose to be on an airplane that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean but never got on the plane. When he found out that everyone thought he was dead, he decided that his wife would be better off with the insurance money so he faked his death and started a new life. Now an investigator has found out his scheme.

George has been in a relationship with Ruth Whittaker and advises her that he is returning to his wife. Ruth pays $7000 to the insurance investigator wanting George to stay with her. But he has made up his mind to return to his wife. He has already called Perry Mason, which came as a shock to Perry, in order to make his return. But Ruth is not a happy camper. Having paid the blackmailer, she threatens George with a letter opener. Later George is found dead with a letter opener stuck in his back. Of course Ruth is charged with the murder and Perry will defend her in court.

But it not as cut and dry as the situation suggest. There are many suspects. From Ruth's hard nose father, George's wife Laura and the man that is in love with Laura. So there is many people that could be suspect in this mystery. With some nice acting and great interchange between Perry and Lt Tragg, this show was interesting from beginning to end.
