Producer-director Robert Rafelson presents a filmed documentary on The Monkees as they fly to Phoenix, AZ in January 1967 for a concert during the run of their television series. Arriving at Phoenix, the Monkees are greeted with loud enthusiasm by a mostly-young crowd at the local airport. Rafelson's camera then follows the boys as they have breakfast at their hotel and drive to local radio station KRUX and take it over to become guest DJs for the day. Finally comes the night of the concert as the group performs before some ten thousand screaming fans, and amid the din we see individual clips of the boys as each one of them explains in voice-over their experiences as popular performers and their dreams for the future.

In the teaser sequence, when Davy Jones
tries to explain how this installment is all about their tour, Micky Dolenz
, Peter and Mike all wear fake beards to hide the actual beards they grew during their Headquarters recording sessions. This sequence is shot on 35 mm while the rest of the show was filmed on 16 mm. See more
