Storyline

Earp dislikes posses but when word reached him that the California San Berdoo Gang was coming to Arizona on its way to Old Mexico he was forced to use one to cover the huge territory. At the tombstone Bank an officer suggests taking a young clerk Arleigh Smith. Smith is from the East with little experience with guns or horses. Although his wife is reluctant to let him go, he finds the experience interesting especially with the opportunity to work with Earp. Earp decides to have the "greener" drive the chuck wagon. Although truly green at the job, he enjoys it. Doc tells him he was picked because he would drive the wagon or cook. They kill one gang member and wound another. He rides in the wagon with Smith who is told to withhold water until he talks. During his first gunfight he runs but Earp still has faith in him. Eventually he volunteers and Earp accepts his proposal to scout posing as a green prospector. He pulls it off returning home with a special respect for Earp. Written by Anonymous

Quotes

Wyatt Earp: [Opening Narration] Marshal Earp disliked working with a posse and avoided it when he could. But news this time that the San Berdue gang had crossed from California into Arizona territory and were heading toward Old Mexico left him with no choice.
