Amos Hall returns to Laramie from Denver. He owns the freight company and sawmill in Laramie making him the bank's biggest depositor. He sees that Jim Bushrod is opening a new saloon. He confronts Bushrod telling him to leave town. At the bank Amos demands Oren close Bushrod's account or Amos will close his accounts. Amos won't tell Oren what the issue is so Oren asks Troop for help but he has no legal reason to act. Troop confronts Amos learning Bushrod was tried for selling guns and whiskey to the Indians leading to the killing of 200 soldiers but was found not guilty by the Army due to hearsay evidence. Amos decides to have a reunion for the 233 Calvary hoping the men will drive Bushrod out. Bushrod fakes a plan to sell out to Lily and asks for protection until he leaves. Johnny is left to guard him but Bushrod knocks him out hoping to frame Amos for killing Johnny. However, Troop is expecting a play by Bushrod and catches Bushrod before he can complete his plan.
