After Sam and Diane's admission of mutual attraction and their passionate embrace and kiss, where do they take it next? Diane wants their first time to be special for both, and although Sam knows that this relationship with Diane may be something more than just a fling, he is still just more interested in satisfying his animalistic needs. After some debate, they end up at Diane's apartment. Once there, they get into another of their heated arguments based on the differences in their personalities, initiated by Sam's ridiculing of Diane's menagerie of stuffed animals. Diane eventually kicks Sam out, who storms back to the bar for support. Carla however says to Sam that she knows how he can get Diane back: exert his manly power over her. Sam heeds the advice. Diane has her own reaction to Sam's manly power, but Diane's reaction isn't all it appears on the surface. Sam's reaction to Diane's ultimate reaction is unequivocal in its intent. Written by Huggo

Did You Know?

Every scene in Season 1 took place inside the bar. The first scene to take place outside the bar was when Sam went to Diane's apartment in this episode. See more »

Rhea Perlman became pregnant during Season One, and her character Carla Tortelli also became pregnant. Perlman gave birth before shooting for Season Two began; Carla Tortelli was still pregnant for the first two episodes, and the fake baby bump is obviously smaller than Perlman's genuine Season One baby bump. Cliff Clavin: Well, you know, millions believe in reincarnation.
Ernie 'Coach' Pantusso: You mean, like when you come back as a chicken?
Cliff Clavin: Well, not necessarily as a chicken, Coach. The Hindus believe that what you come back as depends on your behavior in this life. You know, if you led a good life, you come back in an elevated state.
Ernie 'Coach' Pantusso: Like Colorado.

The First in a Series of Battles
8 August 2019 | by HitchcocSee all my reviews

Now that the two are seeing each other, it's really going to get bad. Sam uses his usual cro-magnon efforts on Diane. But she is really smart and heads him off at the pass. The pacing here is excellent and works. The only way this can work is if the two combatants can hold their own. Works this time.
