It turns out that Halloween is the one night of the year when vampires actually lay low, so everybody is getting their costumes from the new store in town, Ethan's Costume Shop. Buffy wears a noble woman's dress from the time when Angel was human, Xander dresses up like a soldier, and Willow chickens out on dressing in a sexy outfit and goes as a ghost. But Ethan Rayne, the shop owner, has invoked the Roman god Janus so everybody becomes their costume. That means all the kids in the neighborhood are now monsters and Buffy thinks she is an 18th-century maiden who faints at the sight of demons and vampires. Written by DRBERNABO256

A vampire enters the Summers home after Angel by simply walking in the house, yet vampires must be invited into a home before they can enter. The "vampire" in this case is not an actual vampire, however, but merely another high school student who has transformed into the monster he was dressed as for Halloween. We see him as a human earlier, escorting a group of children while trick-or-treating. Presumably, the laws which prevent real vampires from entering a house uninvited do not apply in this case. Cordelia Chase: I know. Is the Bronze so not happening, or what?
Angel: Oh... Hi.
Cordelia Chase: Hi.
Angel: I'm waiting for Buffy.
Cordelia Chase: Great. I'm supposed to be meeting Devon, but he's nowhere to be seen. It's like he thinks being in a band gives him an obligation to flake. Well, his loss is your incredible gain.

One of my favourite episodes of the show
28 July 2017 | by jamarianaSee all my reviews

I think this may have been my original favourite episode of the show at the time I got to it. What I mean by that is, as I began watching the show chronologically (from start to finish) this episode was the one I liked most before I got any further in the show, before I watched past season 2 episode 6. It has an amazing story - so creative, interesting, and well done. It also has great dialogue. I particularly love that Cordelia gets her Halloween costume from a different store, and how Xander becomes a militant soldier. I've seen the episode 5 times to date and it never gets old.
