Storyline

Barney decides that to be a modern police force, the Mayberry Sheriff's office should have a tracker dog. The mutt he acquires for the task is a lovable thing but not exactly suited for the purpose. When he and Andy have to go off searching for an escaped prisoner, Barney insists on bringing the dog along. Leave it to Barney of course to not recognize the escapee when he comes across him and he's soon taken prisoner. Thanks to his mutt, his attempt at escape is thwarted and soon both he and Andy are prisoners. As it turns out, Barney's dog saves the day. Written by garykmcd

Goofs

In the courthouse scene where Barney is demonstrating to Andy how well Blue responds to the dog whistle, the rope used as Blue's leash is tied to his collar in most shots. But in one shot in the middle of the scene the rope is off the collar and laying on the courthouse floor next to Blue. In the next shot it is once again tied to the collar. See more »

Quotes

Andy Taylor: Barney, you want my honest opinion? I don't believe that dog can find his own food dish.

Shameless Display of Stupidity
13 December 2019 | by HitchcocSee all my reviews

On four separate occasions, Barney shows that in five years he hasn't learned anything. When an escaped convict (lots of them end up in Mayberry) is being sought by the State Police, Barney drags a dog named Blue into the act. He is supposedly a tracker, but just likes to lie down and sleep. Andy could have been killed during this offering. Barney worked hard to make that happen.
