The end of Day Three
10 September 2008 | by MaxBorg89See all my reviews

Another season finale, another overflow of powerful emotions: the end of 24, Day 3, doesn't have the same dramatic punch of the final moments of the first two seasons, but it still confirms the show's status as one of the edgiest, most compelling TV programs of the 21st century.

Significantly, it seems to go badly for everyone involved: Jack and Chase put their lives on the line as they follow Saunders' henchman Arthur Rabens to a public school where the terrorist intends to release the virus; Tony faces charges of treason for what he did to save Michelle; Kim has to think carefully about her future; and David Palmer, having to deal with the political and personal aftermath of Sherry's death, makes a shattering decision regarding the election.

In a way, this represents a closure of sorts for the series, at least as it looked like in the beginning, since this final hour of Season Three suggests the cast of the next day will be quite different. The last image in itself is less openly shocking than its Day 1 or 2 counterparts, perhaps because the entire episode by its own is worth a hundred cliffhangers. The last on-screen interaction of the season between Sutherland and Haysbert, in particular, truly marks the end of an era. Outstanding
