Before being sent to serve in Vietnam, two brothers and their girlfriends take one last road trip, but when they get into an accident, a terrifying experience will take them to a secluded house of horrors, with a chainsaw-wielding killer.
After kidnapping and brutally assaulting two young women, a gang unknowingly finds refuge at a vacation home belonging to the parents of one of the victims: a mother and father who devise an increasingly gruesome series of revenge tactics.
Best friends Marie and Alexia decide to spend a quiet weekend at Alexia's parents' secluded farmhouse. But on the night of their arrival, the girls' idyllic getaway turns into an endless night of horror.
While celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, a couple are caravanning through the desert with their 3 children, son in law and their baby granddaughter. While the rest of the family agrees there are plenty of better and more appropriate things to do to celebrate an anniversary, they make do with what they have, but things take a turn after a sketchy gas station attendant informs them about a "short cut" that will take them in between a series of hills in the desert. It doesn't take too long before they realise they're not alone and the hills indeed do have eyes.Written by
There was allegedly great difficulty shooting the scenes where a gun was pointed at the baby, not because the child was too scared, but because it kept trying to play with the gun. See more »
(at around 50 mins) When Bobby is lying down in the trailer, he checks his watch at 11:49 PM and the gun can be seen behind him perfectly parallel with the ledge. He then hears Beast barking outside, gets up and reaches to grab the gun. The camera cuts to a close-up of the gun as Bobby grabs it, however it is now rotated 45 degrees between shots. See more »
Alexandre Aja listed what had to be cut from the film to receive an R rating:
There were additional shots of Bob burning and his eyes turning white.
A close-up of Lynne being shot in the head; the muzzle-flash and the direct impact.
A more explicit shot of the gun being pointed at the baby
The rape scene with Brenda was a half a minute longer
In the finale, Doug originally shoots Lizard three times with the shotgun rather than just twice. Aja has stated that despite these cuts, the version released in theaters is still his "director's cut", but that there will be an unrated DVD with the above mentioned scenes re-instated.
Also, there was an extra cut not mentioned by Aja, but was ironically available for viewing online before the film was ever released. It is when Doug kills the "shotgun mutant" (the one with the head brace and the plaid shirt). In the online clip before the film's release, when Doug slams the pick into his eye, it was followed with a quick push-in close up on the wound. However, the CG did not look complete, but possibly because of the low quality online clip. This being said, it was uncertain if this was cut for gore (the close up on the bleeding eye) or if in fact the CG did not look realistic enough. However, it can be confirmed that the push in shot has been inserted back into the film for the unrated DVD.
A gory killing horror movie about the classic Wes Craven story
The movie begins with a prologue saying: Between 1945 and 1962 the United States conducted 33 atmospheric nuclear tests.Today the government still denies the genetic effects caused by the radioactive fallout. This gore-feast deals about a family in holidays traveling in a caravan. The family is formed by father(Ted Levine),mother(Kathleen Quinlan), daughter(Vanessa Shaw) with her husband(Aaron Stamford)and their baby, and two teens(Dan Byrd,Emilie De Davin). A gas Station attendant(Tom Bower) lead them for driving along a wrong turn throughout the New Mexico desert. But their journey becomes a nightmare for the familiar group pushed by eerie maniacs. Then a cruel band of inbred mutants cannibals attack them. They are taken in the nightmare clutches of homicidal inhabitants desert.A mysterious unseen creatures drag them away and torture, kill and they transform into flesh eating. These brutal people with rare names,Lizard(Robert Joy),Papa Jupiter(Billy Drago) and Big Brain(Desmond Askew)murder and dismember passing travelers. The maniacal assassins slaughter victims and annihilate the family members.
The film packs, tension, suspense, chills, terror, sadism and lot of blood and gore -including impalement, attempted rage, shot in the face,sliced,stabbing- courtesy of Greg Nicotero and Howard Berger. They create a creepy make-up of horrible mutants cannibals. The murders are gruesomely executed and equally as graphic as the original movie. The film is constituted by a well done terror set pieces with creepy and spooky atmosphere. The mutants appearance delivers the goods with hair raising chills and full scares. The story is borrowing from the classic¨Texas chainsaw massacre¨until recent movies like ¨Wrong turn¨and ¨House of 1000 corpses¨and of course¨Wes Craven's The hills have eyes¨. The motion picture is skillfully directed by Alexandre Aja.In spite of seeing a new version,it's certainly one of the most unsettling remakes of the last years. It's recently exhibited the second part directed by Martin Weisz. The film isn't apt for little boys, neither squeamish.
