Guy Ritchie's Snatch Becomes a Crackle Series Starring Rupert Grint
Crackle, Sony's streaming network, today announced that Rupert Grint, most known for his role as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter film franchise, will star in the network's new scripted drama series, Snatch, based on the wildly popular movie of the same name. Grint, who most recently was seen on Broadway opposite Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane in "It's Only a Play," will play the dynamic, frustratingly chaotic and utterly posh, Charlie Cavendish, and will also serve as an executive producer. Additional cast includes Dougray Scott (Fear The Walking Dead, Doctor Who) as Vic Hill, and Ed Westwick (Wicked City, Gossip Girl) who will guest star as Sonny Castillo.

Nick Renton (The Musketeers, Jericho) has signed on to direct the series which begins production next week in Manchester, England. As previously announced at this year's Upfront presentation, Crackle will carry the spirit of the setting in the original feature film,

The Americans, Love & Marriage and the rise of hybrid TV genres | Mark Lawson

It used to be that viewers knew what to expect from a BBC drama, or an ITV comedy, or a Channel 4 import. But increasingly, the lines are blurring, and that's no bad thing

There's an expression frequently used by TV drama executives giving notes on proposals or shows in development: "The audience need to know where they are from early on." The comment most often refers to genre – is this a thriller, a romcom or a drama-doc? – but can also relate to the network for which the piece is aiming. "This feels more BBC2 than BBC1," a commissioner might say, with the precision of a wine-taster, or: "It isn't really ITV. Have you tried Channel 4?"

Recently, these exact distinctions have broken down, partly through the rise of hybrid genres, influenced by Us independent cinema and cable TV, in which a joke can lead to a death, or vice-versa.

The Whitechapel season three finale included a few surprises, a smattering of romance and a plentiful supply of blood and guts. The idea that the escaped looney Mantus had been preying upon the unsuspecting folk of the East End always seemed a bit too obvious for a Whitechapel script so I wasn’t hugely surprised to find out that someone else was behind the killing spree. The storyline does make you think twice though about fobbing off grumpy old gits when they make complaints.

Lydia Leonard (Jericho) was really good as the suspicious seeming but ultimately tragic Morgan Lamb. Rupert Penry-Jones fans will recognize her as the girl who played opposite him in the 39 Steps and based upon their chemistry in this episode it wouldn’t be a big surprise

Endeavour: an inspector recalled

Morse is back – but in a prequel starring this man as the young inspector. Can he escape from John Thaw's shadow? Laura Barnett searches for clues on the shoot

It's early morning at a ghostly disused Raf base, and I have just been transported back to the 1960s. A woman struts past me in a green mini-dress, hair backcombed into a beehive. A vintage blue and cream bus sits in a car park. A man in a serge suit and a beige mackintosh sits on a folding chair, smoking a cigarette. Through all this strolls a tall, loose-limbed young man with piercing blue eyes and a strangely familiar expression.

The expression – avuncular yet determined, confused yet confident – is familiar because it's the default expression of Inspector Morse, the opera-loving solver of shire-based crimes. But Morse has not come back from the dead: the loose-limbed young man is actor Shaun Evans,

TV Review: Great Cast Nearly Rescues Deeply Flawed ‘Survivors’

Chicago – Who knew the end of the world would be so dull? BBC America makes a rare misstep this weekend with the debut of “Survivors,” an ensemble show with a strong cast and timely concept but self-serious writing that rarely clicks into anything entertaining in its premiere. With cliched dialogue and awkward pacing, “Survivors” improves drasticallly in future episodes but never lives up to its potential.

TV Rating: 2.5/5.0

Updating the ’70s BBC mini-series “Survivors” for a generation terrified of Sars and swine flu was actually a brilliant idea. The very structure of the concept should work with both the excellent caliber of science fiction often available on BBC America in programs like “Torchwood,” “Doctor Who,” and “Primeval” and should deliver for fans of ensemble mysteries like “Lost”. Perhaps that’s why “Survivors” feels so generic.
