Storyline

The legends tells the story of how the Toa came to be, chosen from the pool of Matoran youth in the great city of Metru Nui and, though physically transformed, hardly prepared for increased size and super heroic powers. Now in short order, the Toa--who babble and bicker like agitated adolescents--have to master their new gifts, impress their leader, and prepare to protect their home. Trivia

The Coliseum's design was inspired by the real-life Coliseum in Rome, which the filmmakers actually visited and consulted multiple books on. The musical score of the Coliseum action scene took inspiration from movies like Spartacus (1960) and Gladiator (2000). See more »

Goofs

In some shots, the metallic texture on the Kikanalo's bodies do not move in unison with them. They remain in one place, even though the creatures themselves move. See more »

Quotes

Whenua: [grunts in frustration] That was a complete waste of time!
Lhikan: Without self-discovery, you will never find your destiny. This is every Toa's duty to the Great Spirit.
Whenua: This whole thing is a load of doody if you ask me.

Alternate Versions

In the Japanese dub, almost all uses of the words "brother(s)" or "sister" are replaced with the characters' actual names, exceptions being when Nidhiki taunts Lhikan by calling him his brother. Makuta also calls his pet bird Nivawk by name, whereas he goes unnamed in the original English version. See more »

This movie is excellent; it should have been longer so that it could be released in theaters!!!!
20 November 2004 | by inviolet_nowSee all my reviews

When I first saw Bionicle 2: Legends of Metru Nui, it was the best CGI movie that I have seen in a very long time. I never thought that there were even Toa before the Toa we know, and also I found out that they later turn into Turaga when they lose their power, such as when Lhikan turned into a Turaga and the Toa Metru turned into Turaga after they gave up their power. Also, I found out the answer to a mystery that has been one of my Lego goals to solve; where did the Kanohi Vahi, the Great Mask of Time come from and who created the mask?; and finally, the major villain, which I have decided to reveal, is quite possibly the greatest mystery in the movie; Makuta. How is Makuta involved in Metru Nui, why is he in this time period, and finally, how did he get involved with Turaga Dume in the first place as "sworn to protect the Matoran"? Anyways, it was a great movie in my opinion. I give it a 100 on my scale of 1 to 10.(I have heard that they are to release a third Bionicle movie in 2005.)
