A Fresh Twist
29 October 2003 | by mchatowSee all my reviews

I Am My Resume is a gritty, inside look at how Hollywood draws fresh talent in, chews people up, and spits them back out. While the subject matter may sound familiar, this film gives it a fresh twist.

Genesis (Jenifer Tetlow), a fresh faced 18 year old hopeful from Idaho Falls is literally fresh off the bus when she moves into an apartment shared by three other women in varying stages of their acting careers.

The film plays nicely off the interplay between the innocence of Genesis, just learning the realities of the industry, Rachel (Opal Anchel), who has been around long enough to know how the game is played but not long enough to be burnt out, Kelly (Jamie Brown), who blunts the rejection by getting stoned, and the oldest roommate, Alex (Andi Hughes), who has seen everything, is at the breaking point and is contemplating moving back home.

The quick pacing, tight editing, solid performances, and a great soundtrack are more reminiscent of a pilot for an HBO or Showtime series than a typical short film.

If any thing, that's the drawback to I Am My Resume- we're introduced to characters that we start to care about, see important changes take place in their lives, and then really want to know what happens next. Of course the point of the film is that you never know what may happen next, but it doesn't stop us from wanting more.
