Trivia

Television's first network color broadcast. However, commercial production of the first television set compatible with the CBS field sequential color system did not begin until September 1951, leaving only prototype models available for viewing this special in June 1951. Variety estimated that only 30 color receivers were available in the New York area. The show was relayed by cable to CBS affiliates in four other cities (Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington), which then broadcast the special over the air. See more »
