Succinylcholine, also known as Suxamethonium chloride, is depolarizing neuromuscular blocker. It is rapid IV onset of less than minute and a duration of 5- 10 minutes in most individuals. It works to depolarize the nerve cells at the neuromuscular junction causing rapid flaccid paralysis which results in the user being unable to move and breath. Although this is portrayed accurately in the movie, there is no know antidote. Even if there could be one found, once the drug has had its effect of paralysis, the only way to have termination of effect is for the drug to be metabolized and for the body to recover in 5- 10 minutes (which before then would also require medical interventions to assist with breathing). STAR RATING:*****Unmissable****Very Good***Okay**You Could Go Out For A Meal Instead*Avoid At All Costs
Joe (Kevin Bacon) and Cheryl Hickey (Courtney Love) and their assistant Marvin (Pruitt Taylor Price) are a small group of professional kidnap extortionists who have this time set their sights on Abigail (Dakota Fanning),the young daughter of wealthy doctor William Jennings (Stuart Townsend) and his wife Karen (Charlize Theron).Anticipating just another routine kidnapping scenario, matters become complicated when Joe learns of Abigail's asthma condition and the compounding effect it could have on the smooth running of the operation. But then,as events progress,it emerges that Joe and Cheryl may have a more sinister ulterior motive in kidnapping Abigail in the first place.
Were it not for Bacon's wild, engaging performance and magnetizing screen presence throughout the film, the cool lines the script offers him and a neat tagline, this thriller could be seen as little more than hackneyed and droning (it's not the fu*king word I'm thinking of,believe me),and has become so ludicrous and OTT by the end you really wish it had ended about ten minutes ago.**
